2012 / 2’ / digital / colour / sound (mono)
A lone figure wanders through an alien landscape. The sound and image are blown-out, creating a textural grain inherent to MiniDV which mimics the sand blowing in the wind.
Filmed on the island of Texel in 2011 right after dropping out of film school and finished in 2012 amidst a mental hurricane, How Many Seas was my first autonomously produced avant-garde work. I lost the original cut of the film along with many other projects to a flooded basement several years ago. However, in 2025, I found the original footage among a stack of surviving tapes. In seeing these images again, I suddenly remembered the entire film, shot-for-shot, as I had made it initially. And so I was able to remake it from memory.
Filmed on miniDV. Available as digital file & DCP.
